THE PROBLEM
Our customer was looking for a way to reproduce a small series of cast bronze letters however the standard casting technique proved to be too expensive for such a short run.
THE MAKEITQUICK WAY
We explored various options from acrylic and metalised paints to more advance casting techniques all involving 3D printing at some point along the way.
After a series of tests we decided to go for our RTV process, perfect for small batches of parts with a specific finish requirement.
THE PROCESS
It all starts from a 3D model of the fonts that we are looking to reproduce.
This is done on our 3D CAD software and printed on our high resolution resin machines to give us the pattern that we’ll be using in the molding process.
Once the pattern is ready we prepare a silicone mold from it and we’re ready to cast our mixture of resin and real metal powder.
The last step consists of cleaning and polishing the letters to give them that perfectly tarnished look.
